The Price of Hokusai

Did you know that a complete set of Thirty-six views of Mount Fuji by Katsushika Hokusai made $3,559,000 ‘Asia Art Week’ in New York yesterday? My student, Anastasia von Seibold, is a Japanese Art dealer and she told me this news at the lesson today because she attended the event. NHK picked up this news too. It is amazing that the art works by Hokusai have been highly valued recent years.

This event is held in New York on March every year.

Anastasia used to work at Christie’s, the world famous auction house in London, and joined the auction by Christie’s.

She established Anastasia von Seibold Japanese Art in 2020 and often visits Japan on business.

It is a coincidence that we both graduated School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS), University of London!

2024年3月20日に葛飾北斎の「富嶽三十六景」 全作品が5億4000万円で落札されたのを知っていますか。私の生徒、Anastasia von Seiboldさんは浮世絵のディーラーで、アジア・アート・ウィークというイベントに参加したので、今日のレッスンでこの話をしてくれました。北斎の版画の価値が毎年上がっているようですごいですね。

アナスタシアさんは以前、ロンドンにある世界的に有名なChristie’sというオークション・ハウスに勤めていたので、今回のChristie’sのオークションにも参加していました。2020年からはAnastasia von Seibold Japanese Artというビジネスを立ち上げ、仕事で日本にもよく行きます。

偶然なんですが、アナスタシアさんも私もロンドン大学SOAS（アジアアフリカ研究所）の卒業生なんです！
