Birthday Celebration for Kimura-sensei

オランダで木村先生の誕生日パーティーに参加しました！I attended Kimura-sensei's birthday party in the Netherlands!

先週末、アムステルダムに行きました。一緒にお仕事している木村先生がアムステルダムに住んでいるので、先生の誕生日パーティーに参加したんです。ハイネケンで乾杯！木村先生は先月、イギリスまで来て私の誕生日パーティーを祝ってくれて、このような関係にとても感謝しています。

Last weekend, I went to Amsterdam. Kimura-sensei, who I work with, lives in Amsterdam, so I attended her birthday party. We celebrated with Heineken! Kimura-sensei also came to England to celebrate my birthday last month and I am very grateful for this relationship.

アムステルダムに行ったのは5回目ですが、前回家族と旅行した時から5年ぶりだったので、とても懐かしかったです。また、秋に行ったのは初めてでとても気分が盛り上がりました。そして、オランダと日本は歴史的な関係も長いので、いつ行ってもお互いの歴史を感じ、楽しめますね。

This was my fifth time to Amsterdam, but it had been five years since my last trip with my family, so it was a nice feeling to be back again. It was also the first time I had been there in the autumn and it was a great experience. The Netherlands and Japan have a long historical relationship, it is nice to feel the shared history.

今まで観光で行っていた時は気が付かなかったんですが、アムステルダムにはイタリアやスペインからの人たちが住んでいました。パーティーに来ていた人たちはみなさん日本語の勉強をがんばっていて、とても嬉しかったです。オランダ人と話すのもオランダに住んでいる他の国からの人たちと話すのもとても素晴らしい交流でした。

I had never noticed that there were people from Italy and Spain living in Amsterdam when I visited there as a tourist. I was happy to have met those Japanese language learners at the party. It was a wonderful cross-cultural exchange, both talking to Dutch people and to people from other countries living in Amsterdam.

準備も大変だったと思うんですが、すしや唐揚げ、たこやきなどの日本の料理もいただき感激でした。どうもごちそうさまでした！カラオケも盛り上がりましたね。パーティーに来た人たちが日本の文化に触れられる素晴らしい時間だったと思います。木村先生、改めてとてもすてきなパーティーに招待してくださって、貴重な異文化体験もさせていただき、どうもありがとうございました。

I can imagine how much Kimura-sensei had to prepare for the event, but it was amazing that I enjoyed Japanese dishes such as sushi, fried chicken, and takoyaki (octopus balls). Thank you very much for the food! The karaoke was also a lot of fun. I think it was a wonderful time for the people to experience Japanese culture. Thank you again, Kimura-sensei, for inviting me to such a wonderful party and giving us a valuable cross-cultural experience.

こちらは木村先生からのメッセージです。

 「『友達の友達はみな友達だ、世界に広げよう友達の輪！』これは、日本のテレビ番組で使われていたフレーズです。私はこのフレーズがとても好きで、モットーにしています。日本語を勉強する人や日本に興味がある人たちの輪が、世界中にどんどん広がって行ってくれたら最高です。それを少しでもサポートできていたら、私は嬉しいです。みんなで『日本語の友達の輪』を広げていきましょう！」

Here is a message from Kimura-sensei.

'Friends of friends are all friends, let's expand our circle of friends to the world!’ This is a phrase used in a Japanese TV program. I like this phrase so much and this is my motto. It would be great if the circle of Japanese learners and Japan lovers could spread all over the world.  I am happy if I can support that in any way. Let's expand our 'circle of Japanese friends'!

私たちのように外国で教えている先生方も自国で教えている先生方も、グローバル教育の可能性をこれからも広げていきたいですね！「日本語教師会」でもこれからの交流を楽しみにしています。よろしくお願いします！

It would be wonderful to keep working on the further potential of global education, both for teachers like us teaching in another countries and those teaching in your own countries! I look forward to future exchanges at the “Japanese Language Teachers” group as well. Thank you very much for supporting the community!
