Kizuki #4 The Heart Behind Japanese Communication

Sep 22, 2026

Kizuki #4 began with a quiet question I carried for many years:

Why do Japanese and British people feel “the same conversation” so differently?

After living in the UK for 23 years and teaching Japanese communication for two decades,

I began to notice a subtle space between their words—

a difference not in language, but in the movement of the heart.

Japanese silence often feels comfortable —

a moment of sincerity or thinking time.

British silence often feels uncomfortable —

as if the conversation has paused.

This emotional contrast opens a much larger story.

In this Kizuki, I gently explore the deeper structures—

education, culture, history, and the architecture of language—

that shape how we respond, pause, and connect.

If you’ve ever felt a quiet gap in cross‑cultural communication,

this reflection may offer a new way to see it.

May today bring you a gentle moment

to notice the “heart behind communication” in your own life.

Let’s grow gently together.

Kizuki #4
