Arai Academy Summer Cooling Party 納涼会 (のうりょうかい)

こんにちは。昨日、あらいアカデミーの先生がたと納涼会をしました。みなとても熱心で、いろいろなことを学び合いました。今回はぜひみなさんとこの学びを共有したいと思います。お役に立てたら嬉しいです。

Hello！ Yesterday, the teachers of Arai Academy of Japanese Studies had a summer cooling party together. Each of us has strong passion for teaching and we learned a lot from each other. We would like to share what we learned with you. We would be happy if it will be helpful for you.

オランダ在住の木村美智子先生、東京在住の山本真理子先生、イスタンブール在住の中村有里子先生、三重在住の梁木俊秀先生、イギリスからは私がオンラインで参加しました。どうすればもっといいレッスンができるか、もっといいサポートができるかなど意見交換をしました。違う国での考え方などもとても興味深く、異文化を通してのそれぞれの経験を共有できて嬉しかったです。

Michiko Kimura-sensei from the Netherlands, Mariko Yamamoto-sensei from Tokyo, Yuriko Nakamura-sensei from Istanbul and Toshihide Hariki-sensei from Mie and myself from the UK participated online. We exchanged opinions on how we can make our lessons better and provide effective learning support. It was very interesting to share the ideas from different countries and the cross-cultural experiences are great.

主に３つのポイントを共有したいと思います。　一つ目は「学ぶ目的をしっかりと持つこと」2つ目は「長く学び続けるために」3つ目は「共に成長していくことの大切さ」です。

We would like to share three main points.　The first is "to have a clear purpose for learning", the second is "how to keep learning for a long time", and the third is "the importance of growing together".

①「学ぶ目的をしっかりと持つこと」はスタートするときからゴールするまでずっと大切になりますね。テストのために勉強するのももちろん大切です。そして、大きい人生というビジョンで見ると、テストはその1部だという考え方で勉強する姿勢が大切だという話をしました。勉強は自分の人生のレベルを上げるためですから、日々の努力が成果につながりますね。

(1) "Having a clear purpose for learning" will be important from the time you start all the way to the finish line. Of course it is important to study for the test. But we also talked about the importance of having an attitude of studying with the idea that the test is one part of a larger vision of life. Studying is for the purpose of raising the level of our life, so our daily efforts will lead to success.

②「長く学び続けるために」どうすればいいかということですが、一番いいのは実際の生活に応用できることを学ぶということです。日本語の勉強なら、自分にとって必要な表現なら覚えやすいですが、自分にあまり関係がない表現は覚えにくいですね。まずは自分に役立つ場面と表現から勉強していくと続けやすいと思います。

(2) "How to keep learning for a long time", the best approach is to learn things that can be applied to real life. If you are studying Japanese, it is easy to learn expressions that are necessary for you, but difficult to learn if they are not so relevant to you. We believe that it is easier to continue studying if you begin with situations and expressions that are useful to you.

③「共に成長していくことの大切さ」ですが、これは先生と日本語を学んでいる皆さんが共に成長するということです。先生も教え方を学んでいくことで、もっと皆さんが学びやすくなりますね。それで、毎回のレッスンに感謝して、そのレッスンの後、お互いに新しい自分に変わっていくことが素晴らしいということを話しました。

(3) "The importance of growing together" means that the teacher and the students will grow together. By learning how to teach, the teacher can make it easier for you to learn. So, we talked about how wonderful it is to appreciate each lesson and to be transformed into a new version of ourselves after each lesson.

みなさんは聞いたことがあるかもしれませんが、　昨日より今日、０．１％成長すると、365日後には今より４４％も成長できるそうです。　たいてい1年で今より１０％成長できればいいほうだと言われているそうなので、４４％はとても大きい変化ですね。

As you may have heard, if you grow 0.1% today than yesterday, you will grow 44% in 365 days.　It is usually said that it is good enough to grow 10% in a year from now, so 44% is a  big change.

私はこのような熱心な先生方、そして毎回のレッスンを楽しみにしてくれている生徒たちと共に成長していけることが何よりもありがたいことだと実感しています。これからもお互いにすこしずつ成長をつづけていき、毎日新しい自分を楽しんでいきましょう。

I am most grateful to be able to grow with such dedicated teachers and students who look forward to each lesson. Let's continue to grow together and enjoy the new version of ourselves every single day.
